Back to Indoor Allergy Awareness Week

Living with an indoor allergy can take its toll physically and mentally for those directly affected and others in the household. The triggers for an allergic reaction when you live with an indoor allergy are hard to escape and preventing or reducing exposure to an indoor allergen is a frequent, time consuming, and costly regime for the people and families affected. More awareness around the impact of living with an indoor allergy can promote understanding and help to lighten the burden of the illness.

A recent survey by Allergy UK on the lived experiences of those with an indoor allergy highlighted that 60% of adults keep their condition to themselves, because it is not well understood by others. Suffering in silence can often make living with a disease which has little respite from the symptoms, even more difficult. In fact, 90% believe there is not enough public awareness around indoor allergies and 72% of adults surveyed strongly agree or agree that indoor allergies impact their mental health.

This Indoor Allergy Awareness Week is an opportunity to have conversations around indoor allergies at work, in the home and with families and friends so indoor allergens and their impact on individuals are more widely recognised. Feeling understood and supported can make the day-to-day challenges of managing the symptoms of an indoor allergy lessburdensome which is why we have created a resource pack to download to support those conversations.

In addition, there is an all-new Indoor Allergy Awareness Week fundraising pack for anyone who wants to raise money to maintain the services Allergy UK offers to people living with all allergies, including indoor allergies. Our helpline, clinical resources, and campaigning and awareness raising activity relies on having the necessary funding to continue. Any proceeds from fundraising efforts, no matter how big or small, help to keep this work going and make a positive difference to people living with allergies.
