Our Vision for the 10-Year Health Plan

The government’s 10-Year Health Plan consultation opened a vital opportunity for organisations and charities like ours to contribute to the future of healthcare in the UK. Our submission reflected a strong, evidence-based vision for a healthier future, addressing systemic challenges and proposing practical solutions.

Our goal in participating in this consultation was to provide constructive input on the Department of Health’s vision to revolutionise healthcare. The consultation focused on three critical areas:

  1. Shifting care from hospitals to community-based providers
  2. Harnessing digital technology to improve care
  3. Adopting a preventative approach to managing healthcare

In our submission, we emphasised the need for systemic change to improve allergy management – a condition that is often overlooked yet has profound impacts on individuals and the healthcare system. Below are the highlights from our recommendations:

  1. Shifting Care to Community-Based Providers
  • Introduce specialist allergy-trained nurses and dietitians in every Integrated Care System (ICS) to manage cases effectively in primary care.
  • Develop robust training programs for GPs and primary care nurses to upskill the workforce and improve patient care.
  • Establish clear pathways for allergy management in primary care to ensure timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
  1. Harnessing Digital Technology
  • Develop a National Allergy Register to unify allergy data, supporting research and better resource planning.
  • Enhance interoperability of electronic health records to ensure seamless sharing of allergy information across care settings.
  • Incorporate advanced diagnostic tools to support healthcare professionals in delivering accurate and timely care.
  1. Adopting a Preventative Approach
  • Launch public education campaigns to increase awareness of allergy triggers, early symptoms and management strategies.
  • Promote early-years interventions, such as parent education on allergy prevention and exposure guidelines.
  • Increase access to preventative treatments like immunotherapy, which reduce the frequency and severity of allergic reactions.
  • Support community-based initiatives, including allergy awareness in workplaces and public spaces, to foster a culture of prevention.

By advocating for these changes, we aim to create a healthcare system that is inclusive, efficient and proactive.

Thank you for your continued support as we strive to make this vision a reality.
