Additional Support

Information and advice for a parent or carer of a young adult living with allergy.

Parent of an 18 to 25 year old

If your young person is feeling overwhelmed, it’s a good idea to show them where they can get some help:

  • If at university or college, student services are a good starting point.
  • Their GP or practice nurse can provide support.
  • If they face problems at work, they should talk with their line manager, HR or occupational health if available.
  • Suggest they follow some youth bloggers on Instagram or Twitter so they don’t feel alone with their condition.
  • For weekday advice, they can contact Allergy UK’s Helpline on: 01322 619898. Or they can visit our website anytime at www.allergyuk.org. They can also consider joining our Youth Forum for young adults.
  • Organisations such as National Eczema Society, Eczema Outreach Support, Beat Asthma, Anaphylaxis UK and Beat Anaphylaxis can offer support.
  • If you’re concerned that your young person is reaching a mental health crisis, call 111 option 2 or go to your local A&E.
